Languedoc travel-Ferry options after Seafrance collapse

18 January 2012

Description:

Languedoc travel : Cross channel choices after SeaFrance collapse

Following the final closure of SeaFrance, the choice of operator to cross the channel to France on the short route is now reduced to two ferry operators and Eurotunnel.

P&O ferries continue to operate a very frequent service between Dover and Calais, while DFDS, formerly Norfolkline, operate on the slightly longer route between Dover and Dunquerqe. LD Lines and Brittany ferries offer longer routes across the channel, connecting to ports in Brittany and Normandy.

Driving to the Languedoc Roussillon or other southern areas of France is a popular choice for many, with the generally quiet roads in France making the trip very enjoyable.

If the long drive deter you, but bringing your own car is of interest, then consider the longer ferry crossing to northern Spain. The ferry takes around a day and a half, but is more of a mini-cruise than a ferry trip and can be a fun part of the holiday.

However you decide to get to the Languedoc Rousillon, you are sure of a great holiday in the fantastically varied region of the real  south of  France and don’t forget to take a look at our guides to places to visit.
