After 25 years , the price of parking fines in France will increase from 11 to 17 euros from 1 August , according to a decree of the Ministry of Justice published Wednesday in the Official Journal.

This type of fine punishes "including non-compliance to pay parking fees and stopping or parking in an opposite direction to traffic, not respecting the unilateral alternating parking without adding a device control the duration of parking, or encroaching on a pedestrian crossing, "according the decree.

Raising the fine to 17 euros  was announced on Feb. 8, but the date of application had not been set.

The Finance Committee of the National Assembly had called for a more sustained recovery, paying a fine up to 20 euros to encourage motorists to have a "virtuous behavior".

Parking fines were set at 11 euros since 1986.
