Description:

The Languedoc region is with its wide variety of landscapes a true mountainbikers paradise.

Everywhere you go,there are numerous trails of different difficulty.

You can choose either to ride around vineyards, through forests, over the hills or Mountains, anywhere in the region you can find well signposted itineraries.

The signs are the same as in the rest of Europe, the triangle, and most trails are colour marked as on ski slopes.

Most tourist offices will provide a map, sometimes for a fee, sometimes for free.

Ask for a “VTT” map (Velo Tout Terrain,French for Mountainbike).

There are two challenging long-distance trails, first the 500kmFFC Grande Traversée de l’Hérault, listed further below, and the Stevenson trail which runs criss-cross through the Cévennes in the Lozère and ends in the Gard.

An organisation called FFC (Federation Francais Cyclisme)is linked to VTT bike parks all over the country, ten of them are in the Languedoc, they all offer 100 or more kilometres well-maintained and signposted trails and often services such as bike wash or showers.
