Description:
One of the six national parks in France,the only outside the Alps,is a Mountain range, part of the massif central and is situated in the departments of Gard and Lozère.
It’s the second largest NP in France,covering a land area of 914 km2.
Created in 1970,the park works towards a harmonious development between man and environment and conservation of fauna and flora,therefore it is the only inhabited,although sparsely(14 inh/km2), national park.
It is home to various predatory birds,among the flora before all chestnut groves,broom and juniper berry bush,fir plantations and oak groves,it’s also the land of shale and steep rock,abrupt ending contours and many more.The grantite peakes of Mont Lozère are part of it and are also the highest point,the lowest is Anduze,in the Gard.
Outdoor enthusiasts will find it the ultimate,nearly 2500km marked hiking trails,also to be used by mountainbikers,or numerous horseback rides.
Fishing in the chrystal-clear waters is also popular.
Persons with rheumatic and respiratory problems find the the thermal spa resort of Bagnols-les Bains,at an altitude of 900 metres,on the slopes of Mont Lozère.
It’s renowned since the Roman days and offers also “fitness”packages.
The parks headquarters are located in 48400 Florac.
