A region with such a diversity, as the Languedoc,can be nothing less than a great destination for cyclists.

 

Whether you like it flat along its canals and coastline ,touring among undulating vineyards,or taking the challenge by follow some legendary Tour de France tracks or hit the steep roads of the Pyrenees,it’s all there.

 

Inspired by many other urban areas across Europe,major cities in the Languedoc adopted still increasing bike route networks ,accompanied  by easy  to use rental-schemes.

 

A word of warning,although,in general, French motorists are respectful to cyclists and prepared to make room,roads are rarely lined by cycling tracks,and on busy national roads with high speed traffic,this can lead to tricky situations.

Nevertheless,there is no lack of remote country roads in the Languedoc,where one can cruise without meeting any other traffic at all.

 

For those who cannot make up their mind within this sea of options,bear in mind that the Canal du Midi is the regions most famous track,in fact,it can be followed the entire 240 kilometres,however,during the peak summer season,it can become very congested.

Another option,especially for families is to cycle one of the voies vertes (green paths),a national network of specially developed cycle paths along the most beautiful parts of the region,the Languedoc has currently 14 of them.
